Zero to Ten with Niché Faulkner
If you didn’t know, Charlotte’s yoga scene went through a major transformation during the pandemic. Several popular spots closed, leaving many without a yoga home, including Niché Faulkner. Niché is an incredible yoga trainer at hygge wellness and the cofounder of SHAE Movement African Arts, and a few weeks ago she posted about the sadness she felt at the state of yoga in the city right now.
“I’m looking at studios, and I don’t see anyone that looks like me there,” Niché said. “Like one studio had 20+ teachers and there were two Brown people there. Two. And of course they’re not on the schedule every day, and when they teach I can’t – ya know, it doesn’t fit with my schedule. And I started to think like, we went through so much in 2020. Not even just the pandemic but, you know, the Black Lives Matter movement and all of those things, and here we are. What did we learned from that? We didn’t learn a damn thing from that.”
Garrett Tichy sat down with her for our latest Zero to Ten episode to talk about what’s changed and what hasn’t. It’s an important conversation to have, particularly as we continue as a business to try to be better when it comes to racial equity and diversity.
