Our latest conversation with Garrett, though, is even more hopeful. hygge still isn’t at its pre-pandemic levels, but over the last 12 months things have improved drastically. Office space at all locations is full, FIT (hygge’s gym) is steadily building membership, and in November 2021 hygge launched a retail collective at Camp North End, adding to the space That’s Novel Books inhabits and supporting 30 Charlotte-area businesses. Lokal by hygge is a totally new venture for Garrett and the team, but one he’s proud of.
That doesn’t mean we’re totally out of the woods as a business, though. hygge coworking incurred debt during the pandemic that it still needs to pay off. While office space at hygge is at capacity, growth to the most scaleable part of the business (flex members) is slow. And cases and variants continue to fluctuate, making it difficult to build community among the many new members the spaces have gained.
Even so, talking with Garrett, you can feel the excitement he has again for hygge and what the team is doing. He’s got a million ideas and is reinvigorated. It’s looking like it will be another big year for hygge and it’s many sub-brands.
